🇺🇸Beyoncé and Jay-Z just made real estate history buying this $200M Malibu home, reported to be purchased in an off-market deal. The 30,000 sq ft home is set on an 8-acre bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean in the Paradise Cove area of Malibu, known as Billionaires' Row. Originally listed at $295M, the Carters are also rumored to have paid cash for the property, breaking the record as the most expensive home sold in California. Built for William Bell, one of the biggest art collectors in the world, the minimalist mansion took nearly 15 years to complete. The concrete home was designed by Japanese master architect Tadao Ando, the same architect behind the iconic Cerro Pelon Ranch, Tom Ford’s 24,000 acre ranch in Sante Fe, as well as the Malibu property scooped up by Kanye West following his divorce in 2021. One of the most important architects of the 20th and 21st centuries, Ando’s architectural style blends traditional Japanese architectural styles with contemporary design elements to create minimalist, modernist buildings designed to create a “haiku effect” that emphasises nothingness and empty space to represent the beauty of simplicity. The power couple married in 2008 and have owned and sold homes in New York City, Miami Beach, New Orleans, the Hamptons, and Los Angeles, where their primary residence is — a Bel Air home they bought for $88M and renovated to the value of $100M, according to sources. Adding to their vast real estate portfolio, this architectural gem, part-home-part-sculpture, must be pretty special IRL.
