As Change Agents, we often ask ourselves and our community, "what does good look like?". Take a second to really think about that; when something is aesthetically pleasing, it may feel or look good ~ but is it? Often, the things that make us feel good are not the best for us or our environment and community.
When it comes to Real Estate, acknowledging the impact our home has on our lives and overall well-being is the first step to cultivating an environment that can nourish you and your family. Today you may start by adding a houseplant that can help improve air quality. Perhaps next season it will be the integration of urban agriculture (i.e. raised beds or a vertical herb garden).
But understanding HOW you interact and utilize a space is often the first step in creating positive change. I'll be diving deeper into the various aspects of here on my page and will be starting with the concept of Place. Location is often the main unwavering factor when looking to purchase a new home. What will my commute be? How is the school district? What’s the crime rate? While all valid questions, we often overlook the ecological history of the land, its impact on native habitats, or even whether the community is human-scaled. It’s not a matter of one or the other but rather, changing our way of thinking to include aspects of Place that tend to be overlooked.
I invite you on this journey to reimagine HOW we inhabit our space and encourage you to start by thinking about where you spend most of your time at home. Wherever that may be, what aspects of that place do you love and what would you change in a heartbeat?
