Experience is not training. Joshua had plenty of one and none of the other.

Close to twelve years in construction, and he had never taken a formal course or learned the technical side of the trade. That is more common than most employers assume.

MC3 Pre Apprenticeship Training at CRCD gave him the classroom and the training floor. He found work and joined Ironworkers Local 416, which he now sees as the foundation of a long term career.

"I feel good about it. I'm optimistic. I feel like I got a fresh start."

A pre apprenticeship does not create a worker. It turns one into an apprentice. That is the pipeline the trades keep saying they need.

LAHSA's 2026 Greater Los Angeles Homeless Count puts Black Angelenos at 31.8 percent of the county's unhoused population, even though less than 10% of residents are African American. Those numbers don't add up and create a problem that here at CRCD we take very seriously: Everyone deserves equal opportunities. That's why our many programs seek to close those gaps in employment, education, housing, and more.

CRCD was founded in South LA with a graffiit abatement and beautification contract with the City. Today, we build and operate supportive housing here in South LA, where history landed hardest. Housing built and run inside the community, with services attached, is how a number like this starts to move.

World Homeless Day is tomorrow, and we want to shine a light on CRCD's efforts to close gaps in South LA regarding homelessness through our many programs. Our mission is to help our community thrive through the right planning, development, and services beyond just housing.

If you have ever hired a CRCD graduate, you are already part of this story.

CRCD turns twenty on February 5 and 6, 2027. A VIP dinner on Friday and a community block party on Saturday at the Historic Lincoln Theater, 2300 South Central Avenue.

Sponsorship is not a donation. It is a stake in the pipeline you already draw from: the apprentices, the trained workers, the small business owners who came through a CRCD program before they came through your door.

The credential is the outcome. This is what happens before it.

Kristin, a CRCD participant, on why CRCD matters to her:

“If it wasn’t for them, I probably wouldn’t have continued with school. The staff have pushed me to grow and be better for myself.”

Every diploma and certificate CRCD reports was preceded by a moment like this one, where a student nearly left and a staff member gave them a reason to stay. Funders see the number. This is the work the number is made of.

Los Angeles now has its first unified plan for funding, maintaining, and building City infrastructure. The question for South LA is who benefits.

On September 25, CRCD hosted the South LA Infrastructure Roundtable at our Tresa McCoy Regional Training Center. Community organizations and local stakeholders met with Randall Winston, Deputy Mayor of Infrastructure for Mayor Karen Bass, to discuss the Mayor’s Capital Infrastructure Program, including planning tied to the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

We focused on four outcomes:
Jobs for local residents
Opportunities for small businesses
Stronger community infrastructure
A greater role for community organizations in how public resources reach neighborhoods

The roundtable builds on our South LA All In Infrastructure Forum and our work connecting public investment to local economic opportunity.

In 2005, CRCD was one graffiti abatement contract in South LA.

Twenty years later it is roughly 250 employees, a $60 million annual budget, and three entities working the same corridor: the nonprofit, CRCD Partners in real estate, and CRCD Enterprises in general contracting.

More than 12,000 people trained. Over 4,850 education and employment placements. More than 1,500 high school diplomas and credentials earned.

We are marking it on February 5 and 6, 2027 at the Historic Lincoln Theater.
