I grabbed lunch at La Popular, and somehow a few hours later, I found myself standing inside a $4.3 million mansion at the top of the mountain.

The second I walked in, there was a man offering champagne and giving me a tour of the house.

And honestly, I understood why.

This place was designed to impress.

You’ve got a dramatic double staircase wrapping around a massive chandelier, over 5,400 square feet of living space, and one of the most incredible northwest-facing views I’ve seen in Porter Ranch.

Then he told me something I wasn’t expecting…

The house comes fully furnished.

So if you buy it, you could literally show up with your suitcase and move right in.

Not a bad way to end a lunch date with Porter Ranch

But this house was built in 1908.

Back then, homes were designed differently.

Instead of a giant primary suite, you get something that’s much harder to find today: a basement, a huge lot, and over 100 years of Pasadena character.

Personally, I’d take the basement.

Everyone wants a giant primary suite these days…

But this house was built in 1908, back when homes were designed differently.

So no, you don’t get a massive master bathroom attached to the bedroom.

What you do get is something that’s getting harder and harder to find in Los Angeles…

A nearly 10,000-square-foot lot in Pasadena.

And then there’s the basement.

Most homes in the Valley don’t even have one.

Need a home gym? Office? Art studio? Storage? Wine room? The basement gives you options.

The house has already been updated with newer plumbing, electrical, insulation, windows, and remodeled bathrooms, so you’re getting the character of an old Pasadena Craftsman without inheriting a giant renovation project.

To me, this is the tradeoff:

Would you rather have a huge luxury primary bathroom…

Or a massive lot, a basement, and a piece of Pasadena history?

Maybe it’s because I’m an artist, but I notice the details.

The arches.
The texture.
The character.

A lot of homes are beautiful, but Spanish-style homes have a personality that you can’t recreate.

This Pasadena home is over $1 million, but I can absolutely see why people fall in love with houses like this.
