We are proud to announce that VA Building 701 MacArthur has been recognized with the Silver Award in Affordable Housing at the Los Angeles Business Journal CRE Awards. Thank you to the Los Angeles Business Journal for this tremendous honor and recognition. We are equally pleased to share that the project has officially converted to permanent financing — a milestone that ensures the long-term stability of the community for years to come.

VA Building 701 MacArthur is a recently completed residential community for formerly homeless Veterans at the West Los Angeles VA Campus. Over the course of 2 years, through both modular manufacturing and on-site new construction, TSA led the conversion of a 3-acre parking lot into a garden-style residential community, with lush, landscaped walkways weaving through 11 adjacent low-rise buildings. It is among the last projects designed by the late architect Frank Gehry, in collaboration with The Architects Collective. With the support and partnership of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the California Department of Veterans Affairs, Wells Fargo, California Community Reinvestment Corporation, Los Angeles County Development Authority, Tunnel to Towers, the West Los Angeles Veterans Collective, LENA Construction, and our hardworking crew, we were able to transform the lives of 118 formerly homeless Veterans. We hope to celebrate many more such milestones in the years to come as we fight Veteran homelessness in Los Angeles County.

Thomas Safran & Associates celebrated the grand opening of Thatcher Yard, a 98-unit intergenerational tax credit affordable housing community for seniors and families in Marina del Rey, with 50% of the homes designated as Permanent Supportive Housing. This major milestone reflects our commitment to providing safe, stable housing for individuals and families experiencing homelessness. We extend our sincere gratitude to the many partners whose contributions made this project possible. Our work continues to enhance the world in which we live and enrich the lives of the people who reside in our buildings.

We are especially grateful to the support of our partners: Councilwoman Traci Park, California Community Reinvestment Corporation, California Debt Allocation Committee, California Department of Housing & Community Development, California Tax Credit Allocation Committee, The City of Los Angeles Housing Deparment, Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco, and HACLA - Housing Authority.

The Veterans Collective—Century Housing, Thomas Safran & Associates, and U.S.VETS—has secured $105 million in tax-exempt bonds and low-income housing tax credits to support the continued transformation of the West LA VA campus.

This new financing will bring 250 additional supportive homes for Veterans and a long-envisioned Town Center to life—a central space for gathering, services, and healing.

It’s a meaningful step forward in our broader vision: more than 1,200 homes across the North Campus, ultimately creating a vibrant, inclusive community where up to 3,000 Veterans and their families can thrive.

Folks young and old can’t help but get excited to meet Old Saint Nick himself. There were fun holiday treats, beautiful decorations, a special reading of the holiday class “How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” and lots of smiles.
