United Friends of the Children United Friends forms consistent, long-lasting relationships with every foster youth we serve.

We prepare foster youth for life beyond foster care by giving them the confidence, tools, and opportunities they need to lead independent, fulfilled lives. United Friends empowers current and former foster youth on their journey to self-sufficiency through service-enriched education and housing programs, advocacy, and consistent relationships with a community of people who care.

Today is World Mental Health Day, and we cannot let it pass without uplifting the foster youth in our community. πŸ’›

This past year, 1 in 5 youth entered the foster care system in LA County due to mental abuse alone. The experiences these young people carry are ones most of us will never face. They deserve to be seen and supported.

Comment below if you stand with foster youth today. πŸ’›

"They didn't just help keep me alive. They really positioned me to thrive." πŸ’›

Those are the words of Sallia Wilkins, attorney, advocate, and United Friends alum. At last year's gala, Sallia took the stage and moved the entire room with her story of perseverance, hope, and what it truly means to have someone in your corner during the darkest moments.

This is why we do what we do. Join us October 27th at the Skirball Cultural Center and be part of the next chapter.

Bridging the gap between high school and college, meet Nalleli! πŸŽ“πŸ’™

Nalleli graduated high school ready for her next chapter, but her fall term start date meant she couldn't move into the dorms early. With financial aid not yet available and DCFS payments still catching up, she needed a place to stay for the summer.

United Friends stepped in with a persistence grant to cover her summer housing, giving Nalleli the stability to focus on what mattered most: getting ready for college. Her adaptability turned a tricky transition into a smooth start. πŸ’™

United Friends is proud to have supported AB 179. πŸ’›

We joined a statewide coalition urging Governor Newsom to fund a new round of California's Homeless Housing, Assistance and Prevention program. AB 179 established HHAP Round 7, restoring critical funding for shelter beds, rental assistance, and housing navigation for young people across California.

Stable housing is the foundation everything else is built on.

Representation matters. Seeing someone who has walked your path and made it to the other side changes everything. πŸ’›

Julissa, a United Friends alum and newly licensed registered nurse, volunteered her time to pour into the next generation because every young person deserves to know their dreams are within reach.
