Forget commercial airlines, I recently found out that private hop-on jets are the way to go!! You get there 20min before takeoff, walk right onto the plane (only 6 stairs!), and have wayyyyy more legroom than on commercial airlines! You can have your rental car waiting for you right on the tarmac, so you don't have to trek to the giant rental complexes - you walk off the plane, they hand you the keys, and you're gone! (This is NOT a paid endorsement - just my honest to goodness feelings about all this.) I recently discovered and I don't think I'm ever going back to normal air travel. They fly to Vegas, Reno, Phoenix, Seattle, Oakland, Napa - so basically everywhere regional you could possibly want to go. (And once Covid is over, they'll be flying even more places.) And their flights are often cheaper than Southwest, esp. if you're going last minute.
Plus, you can bring your dog, even if it's not a service animal, as long as it's up to 60lbs! (If theyre over 60lbs, like my labs, you just buy them an extra seat - and there is so much room on the floor and underneath the seat, so they can comfortably lay at your feet - unlike commercial airlines.) The planes are not that big - about 30 people max - and theyre never totally full. Airports these days are a big Covid risk, so the thought of skipping all that hubbub just feel so much safer. Once you fly this way, youre never gonna fly any other way.
