Life, it seems, is not always so quite here in NoHo CA. Last night, for example, I volunteered to take a friend to the airport… Not our own Bob Hope International mind you, but the other one. The airport named after that famous, Swedish fish, the LAX. I’m sure you’ve run across it, the one which, when placed on a bagel, becomes lox? Seriously? The one, if served pan fried, garlic and lemon sauced it’s salmon, that one….. But I digress.
Because of the time, (2:30 am) when I was supposed to pick up my friend, I had gone to bed early, read a bit (not a great book but, if I don’t read for an hour or so, I simply dont sleep), dozed of when… what to my wondering ears should appear??? Several, fast paced, not very loud, bangs (which, being the cold eyed, steel nerved, combat veteran that I am, immediately identified as some idiot beating on a sheet of metal or something with a hammer, what else could it be at 11ish on a Thursday night in NoHo CA)
Anyway, I took my friend to the airport, very light traffic on the 405, I didn’t know it was possible to go much over 30 there, but….again, I digress…
Dropped my friend, headed back home, turned on my street and….. A cop car was parked sideways blocking of the street… a very polite, shaved head, couple of tats. LAPD Sergeant asked where I was going, told me if I turned left, then right at the first street, right again at the the first corner, I would be on the other side of the taped off area and would be fine… I asked what was happening and he told me they were just following up on a report… Nothing more.
Then, this morning, I woke up, got Luke the Dog and Miss Ivy the Cat their breakfast (hand chopped, deli sliced turkey from Smart and Final, freeze dried white things and kibble for Luke, canned dog food, don’t ask, she loves it, and dry cat food for Miss Ivy), hot oat bran cereal, a nice ripe nectarine, small pot of espresso and a glass of tomato juice for me, and…. My street is full of TV vans, reporter type folks, plain clothes cops….. What the hell happened????? I have no idea.
Just another day, I guess, in NoHo CA…
