A FOCUS ON SERVICE...

Barry Gray is a Founding and Senior Partner at deasy/penner&partners, a real estate brokerage specializing in the marketing and sale of residential architecture, historic properties and design-centric homes. He has represented both buyers & sellers of architecture and historic homes designed by early twentieth century icons Arthur & Nina Zwebell, mid-century masters Richard

Neutra, John Lautner & Raphael Soriano, classic Southern California architects Richard Dorman, Ed Fickett, Donald Wexler & Gregory Ain, and numerous contemporary architects currently working in Southern California. Barry has sold property from the Westside of Los Angeles to the Hollywood Hills, Los Feliz & Silver Lake, Pasadena, and even Palm Springs. While his passion for residential architecture launched his career, it's his passion for service that has sustained it. Barry is certified as a Seniors and Negotiation Specialist, has managed complicated trust sales, and enjoys more than anything the opportunity to guide clients through a process that can be emotional and confusing. And his focus on service has turned out to be good business: in Sliver Lake, for example, he has negotiated some of the highest ever dollar-per-square-foot sales for both a single-family home and a condo. Barry transitioned into real estate from the film business, where he was involved in independent film finance, distribution and marketing. While traveling extensively around the world to attend film markets and festivals he discovered his interest in architecture. Barry attended Roanoke College and U.S.C.’s Annenberg School of Communications and is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin.

What an honor to have worked on the marketing and sale of this unique property, the home and studio of master ceramicists Gertrud and Otto Natzler. I’ve never worked so hard and never had a more meaningful experience. Thank you to the Trustees and to and for bringing the absolute perfect buyers. The home and studio are in good hands. As Gertrud said in a LACMA documentary of the 1960’s - “the true lover of a pot will see a world contained in it. And he will never think of himself as the owner. But as the trustee. Through whose hands it will pass to the next one”.

NEW LISTING

The Natzler Residence - Upper Nichols Canyon

Offered for the first time in 80 years, this 1937 home served as both sanctuary and working studio for Gertrud and Otto Natzler, among the most important ceramicists of the 20th century. In light-filled rooms overlooking treetops and canyons, Gertrud threw delicate forms on the wheel they brought from Austria while Otto developed the groundbreaking glazes that defined their partnership.

The main residence includes two bedrooms and two and one-half baths, a living room with fireplace, dining room, and a kitchen with ceramic tiles glazed by Otto Natzler. In 1988, Otto commissioned a two-story addition inspired by his Austrian roots — a contemporary nod to an Alpine chalet — designed by architect Alfred T. Wilkes, AIA, for photographer Gail Reynolds Natzler, his second wife after Gertrud’s passing in 1971. The addition introduced a studio and darkroom below and a vaulted primary suite above, both with wraparound balconies and canyon views.

The detached Natzler ceramic studio suite above the garage includes a kitchen, small bedroom, and bath. The property abuts the Briar Summit Open Space Reserve, ensuring lasting privacy and an enduring connection to nature — a living reflection of the Natzlers’ creative legacy.

Always love finding old Polaroids at a house being prepped for market. These little glimpses into the lives lived here are a gentle reminder that I’m not just selling a house—I’m selling someone’s home.
