The Federal Reserve Open Market Committee’s decision Wednesday to hold the base interest rate, and maybe cut it soon, was no doubt welcome news to the commercial real estate industry, but is seen more as a step toward regularity than a huge win.

“People don't like to use the word ‘transitory,’ but in my opinion, the entire thing was transitory,” Ta**us Investment Holdings CEO Peter Merrigan told Bisnow Wednesday afternoon, referring to the spike in inflation and the central bank's monetary policy reaction.

Nonfarm payroll employment rose by 199,000 jobs in October, a little more than consensus estimates, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Friday.

The unemployment rate fell to 3.7%.

The healthcare industry saw the most jobs added in November, growing by 77,000.

Commercial real estate-related industries saw growth as well, including leisure and hospitality, which added 40,000 jobs, almost all of which were in food services and drinking places. The leisure and hospitality sector has added an average of 51,000 jobs per month over the last 12 months.

The Biden administration announced the disbursement of $8.2B through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act for 10 major passenger rail projects nationwide.

The funding includes about $3B for a high-speed rail connection between California and Nevada and about $3B for a line through California's Central Valley that will eventually connect Los Angeles and San Francisco.

The Las Vegas-SoCal high-speed rail line is slated for completion in 2028. In an April letter to Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Nevada and California lawmakers expressed support for the project.
