My dad Harvey would have been 75 today. He would probably have breakfasted over black coffee and done the Sunday NYT crossword (in black pen, obvs) then caught the NBA Playoffs with his brothers, followed by a great steak at the Crows Nest, and a good scotch at the Voyager, with hugs from his kids, grandkids, and well wishes from the many who still remember him fondly to this day. Time to step out

Only 3 weeks ago. It happened so fast. We were lucky. We had places to go. We had a chance to go back for stuff. Our neighborhood was close, but didn’t burn, thank god. Some friends lost everything they own. Many kids lost their schools. Families lost their neighborhoods. Buddies lost their hangouts. Hard workers lost their jobs. Some lost their lives. Friends will be split up. Kids will start at new schools. People will find other jobs. Some will never come back. But some are already digging out. Fingers will be pointed. Insurance will haggle. Rebuild will be slow. Rebuild will be hard. But rebuild will happen. It’ll be better. It’ll take a LONG time. But it’s f***ing worth it. This town is beautiful. Don’t forget your people here next week, month, next year. LA has what it takes. LA is a hell of a town.
