Step 1: Gather your tools and safety basics.
- Stud finder
- Power drill with bits
- Socket wrench
- A long bubble level
- TV wall mount kit rated for your TV

Step 2: Find the studs.
Use a reliable stud finder to locate the vertical supports behind your drywall. Mark the center of each stud clearly with a pencil so you know exactly where to drill. Double-check to avoid unnecessary holes.

Step 3: Position the bracket for viewing.
Hold the wall plate at your desired height and use a level to ensure it is perfectly straight. Have a helper hold the plate against the wall while you mark the pilot hole locations. Aim for eye-level viewing to reduce neck strain.

Step 4: Drill your pilot holes.
Use a drill bit slightly smaller than the diameter of your lag bolts to create paths through the drywall and into the studs. Drill deep enough to accommodate the mounting hardware. Keep the drill level and steady.

Step 5: Secure the wall plate and finalize.
Line up the plate with the pilot holes and drive in the lag bolts. Double-check the level one last time before tightening. Give the bracket a firm tug to ensure it’s rock solid before moving forward. Attach the mounting arms to the back of your TV with the supplied screws, lift with a partner, and hook onto the wall plate according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Secure safety screws to prevent any shifting.

Thinking about upgrading your kitchen without a full remodel? Handydads breaks down a modern, functional backsplash installation with a clear, step-by-step approach you can actually follow.

Step 1 — Prep the wall
- Clean thoroughly with a degreaser. Remove outlet covers and switch plates. Fill holes with spackle and sand smooth. Tape off countertops and cabinets with painter’s tape to protect surfaces. Make sure the wall is completely dry before you start applying any adhesive.

Step 2 — Plan your layout
- Find the wall center and mark a vertical line with a level. Lay out tiles on a flat surface to preview the pattern and minimize small edge cuts. Dry-fit tiles along the bottom row to see how they align with cabinets and outlets. If countertops aren’t perfectly flat, draw a horizontal reference line.

Step 3 — Mix and apply the mortar
- Mix thin-set mortar to a peanut butter consistency. Apply a small amount to the wall using the flat side of your notched trowel. Comb the mortar with the notched edge at a 45-degree angle to create consistent ridges. Work in small sections so the mortar doesn’t dry out before you can place the tiles (10–15 minutes of workable time).

Step 4 — Set the tiles
- Press each tile firmly into the mortar with a slight twisting motion for good adhesion. Insert tile spacers between tiles to maintain even grout lines. Check your work frequently with a level to keep rows straight. Use a tile saw for precise cuts around outlets and corners. Wipe away excess mortar from tile faces with a damp sponge as you go.

Step 5 — Grout and seal
- Allow the mortar to cure for at least 24 hours before grouting. Mix grout and apply with a rubber grout float at a 45-degree angle, pushing the grout into the joints. After about 10 minutes, wipe the tile surfaces with a damp, wrung-out sponge to remove haze. Once the grout is fully dry, apply a sealer to protect the joints from stains and moisture.

Step 1: Turn off the main water supply and then open the lowest faucet in the house to drain any remaining water and pressure.
Step 2: Pick a location near the main shutoff valve and before the water heater. Mark the wall so the mounting bracket will sit level and sturdy.
Step 3: Gather your tools and prepare the pipe. Use a pipe cutter to remove a section of the main line that matches the width of the filter assembly and bypass valves. Ensure cuts are straight and clean to prevent future leaks at the connection points.
Step 4: Deburr the edges of the copper or PEX tubing with a deburring tool to smooth the edges. This helps the seals on your fittings last longer.
Step 5: Apply Teflon tape or pipe thread sealant to all threaded connections on the filter housing to create a watertight seal. If you are using push-to-connect fittings push the pipe firmly into the connector until it clicks. If soldering, keep the heat away from any plastic components of the filter housing. Install a bypass loop so you can still have water if the filter needs maintenance later. Mount the filter housing to the mounting bracket on the wall.
Step 6: Insert the filter cartridge into the housing and tighten the canister.
Step 7: Slowly turn the main water supply back on while checking every joint and connection for small drips or leaks. It helps to have a second person watching the filter area as you operate the main valve. If you see leaks, turn the water off immediately and tighten or reseal as needed.
Step 8: Flush the system for ten minutes by running a nearby bathtub or outdoor hose to remove any air and carbon dust.
