10 ways you’ll go house poor 6 months after closing

It’s rarely the mortgage payment that breaks people - it’s everything sitting around it:
1. Buying at your max approval instead of your
real comfort number

2. Assuming taxes and insurance stay the same
after year one.

3. Furnishing every room the month you move in.
4. Underestimating HOA dues (and the increases
that follow).

5. No maintenance fund - something always
breaks.

6. Starting renovations before you’ve lived in the
space.

7. Utility bills that scale with square footage.

8. Upgrading the car, the decor, the lifestyle to
“match” the house.

9. Letting closing costs drain what’s left of
savings.

10. Zero emergency fund after the down payment.

Alone, none of these sink you. Stack three or four and that’s how a comfortable buyer ends up stressed by month six.
The fix: budget for life AFTER the keys, not just the down payment.
