California’s Housing Progress: Understanding Paths to Growth
It’s no secret that California’s housing supply isn’t keeping pace with our state’s ambitious goals. With less than 30% of cities and counties meeting their market-rate housing targets—and just 6% reaching very-low-income benchmarks—the need for more homes is clear. Construction is moving at about 100,000 homes per year, but we need 312,000 annually to bridge the gap. As a Realtor who’s made it a priority to stay current on market trends and resources—whether it’s probate, short sale, or helping military families—I see firsthand how these shortages affect buyers and sellers across all price points. My experience in Santa Clara County and ongoing dedication to education and advocacy give me a front-row seat to the challenges and opportunities in our region. The numbers are daunting, but understanding the landscape helps clients make informed decisions in a complex market.
