Don’t ignore this.
If your gas pipes are starting to rust, it’s time to take care of it. Rust can lead to small openings at connections, which can cause minor gas leaks. Not something to panic about, but definitely something to stay on top of before it gets worse.
A little maintenance goes a long way. Remove the rust with a wire brush or light sanding, then apply a rust-preventative enamel paint to protect the pipe.
Quick note, the meter itself usually belongs to the utility company. Many allow painting, but some have rules. Avoid painting the glass cover, regulator vent, ID tag, and any critical components.
Stay ahead of it now so it doesn’t turn into a bigger issue later.
