What is Cooperative Living?

Cooperative living is not new, but it is to Colorado. Cooperative housing means joint ownership and operation of a housing development by those who live in it. Each member purchases a share in the limited equity corporation. The share value is based on size, type and location of the home. These shares provide the equity to secure a mortgage. Each membership has an equal voting status in electing the Board of Directors.

Cooperative’s member-elected Board of Directors monitors building operations, enabling the community to be operated at a reasonable cost. Cooperative housing combines the pride of ownership with the conveniences of community living.

To Break it down; you own a share in the Cooperative and rent a unit in the building.
