Honored, humbled, and more emotional than I expected.
On September 11th, I completed the 110-story 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at Summit Park in honor of the firefighters and first responders who served that day.
I climbed wearing a 40-lb weighted vest alongside firefighters completing the climb in full turnout gear. Watching them push through every floor gave me a much deeper appreciation for the physical demands and dedication of their profession.
For me, the climb was about remembrance, service, and gratitude. It was a chance to reflect on the people who answered the call, the families and communities affected, and the many acts of courage and compassion that followed.
During my final ascent, I listened to a recording of President George W. Bush speaking at Ground Zero three days after September 11th. Hearing those words again brought back memories of being 18 years old and serving in the Army National Guard.
What stayed with me most was the sense of unity and service that followed that difficult time.
Twenty-five years later, I'm grateful for the opportunity to participate in this memorial climb and honor those who served.
May we continue to remember, reflect, and support the people who dedicate themselves to serving others.
