HEADS UP HOMEOWNERS!

If you own your home and live in it as a primary residence, you're entitled to a $6,000 discount off the assessed value (not for rentals or 2nd homes). This amount is deducted off of your assessed value and then you are taxed on the lower amount.

However, I'm finding more often when meeting with sellers to sell their house that the discount is not applied. This can add up over the years.

For Boone County, to see if you have your discount applied:
Click on link below for website,
Enter your address or name,
Look for "EXEMPTIONS." It should say "General Homestead."

For Winnebago County:
Click on link below for website,
Click on "View or Pay Bill",
Enter your address or name (make sure you click on the current year!),
Look for the "owner occupied exemption."

Otherwise, for the county you're in, call your local tax assessor's office.

If you are due that discount, call the treasurer's office and check into getting it changed. You may be able to get a credit adjustment for the current year and perhaps one previous year. Every little bit helps!

Friends, family, clients, anyone reading this lol - if you, or anyone you know, are thinking of hiring a Realtor ANYWHERE out of state, or out of this area, please let me know! I can help find an agent in the area you, or they, are looking to buy or sell. If it ends up being a Keller Williams agent, I can research that agent's area they work in, experience, training, production level, etc. to provide a good match.
