Here we are 17 years later! 😂

I’ll admit, as a DFW transplant, my first impression of Lubbock was not great. 🫣

TTU tailgates and college life were a different story, but truthfully I couldn’t wait to leave after graduating.

But then I met my husband who lived and worked here, and suddenly I was a “local.”

Something shifted though after we started having kids. I saw Lubbock in a new light. I saw community, a slower pace of life, and experiences for my kids that I couldn’t give them other places.

Now I have a hard time imagining leaving.

After being here 17 years, I can wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking for a more laid back lifestyle and a strong sense of community to raise your family around. 🤍

Lubbock may not be flashy, but there’s something really special about building a life here.

ChatGPT is pretty smart but there are some details it may leave out, stuff only the locals can tell ya.

- You’ll definitely want some winter gear! You can definitely expect a good winter storm once a year that shuts down the city. And if you don’t have the right gear, you’ll only last 10 minutes before your clothes are wet and you have to go back inside. 😬

- Speaking of shutting down the city, if you are from a northern state that is used to snow, you will be shocked at how quick schools are to cancel. 🤭

- The phrase “Turn around, don’t drown” is a real thing here to be taken seriously. Our streets can flood pretty bad.🚨

- You will see the occasional person riding a horse down the road here. It takes the locals by surprise just as much as it will you. 😳

- It will take you about 15-20 minutes to get anywhere in town. With such short commutes, you really have more flexibility in where you choose to live. 🏡
