In real estate, you have trusted resources. Ace of Texas is one of those. As a homeowner myself, I trust Ace of Texas to act as our agent to keep an eye on our taxes and keep them as low as possible. They have assisted many of my clients. If you aren’t part of their network, you should be. Take a look at their website and submit your information. And read the article they posted on FB a few minutes ago. It is good information if you are a homeowner.

There has been changes to the laws regarding homestead exemptions. One major change is that you can file for a homestead exemption at any time, you do not need to wait until January 1st. The next big change is that appraisal districts are able to review your exemption and ask for proof that it is still your homestead, if you do not submit the required documentation they will remove your homestead. Here are key things to remember:

1. You are only allowed one homestead exemption in the state of Texas.

2. Your homestead must be your primary residence and must be the same address on file as your driver's license.

3. Make sure and check LCAD's website to see if homestead is listed on your property under exemptions and that it is only on one of your properties. They are submitting bills for backed taxes on accounts that were not eligible for an exemption but was taking advantage of the tax savings.

If you are turning 65 this year please let us know so that we can pursue the most aggressive reduction since this is the year your overage exemption will be applied and the majority of your tax dollars will be capped.
