Confidence is increasing that a winter storm will impact much of North Carolina this weekend. All North Carolinians should take this threat seriously.
✅ Forecast details (precipitation types and amounts) will be fine-tuned over the next couple of days.
✅ Key message: Prepare now and plan to stay home and off the roads this weekend.

Ask yourself now:
• How will you safely heat your home if the power goes out?
• Where will you go if you cannot stay at home?

🎒 3) Have Your Disaster Kit Ready
Make sure you have:
• Water: 1 gallon per person per day for 3–7 days
• Non-perishable food for each household member
• Pet supplies and food
• Flashlights
• Extra batteries
• Cell phone charging supplies
• AM/FM weather radio
• Winter weather clothing
• Blankets
• Fire extinguisher

🚗 Travel Safety: Stay Off the Roads
⚠️ Plan to stay home and off the roads this weekend.
Starting Saturday morning, plan to remain home and off the roads until at least Monday.
• NCDOT crews and first responders must be given priority on roadways.
• Help them help us — stay home.
🚘 Stranded Vehicles / Yellow Tape Notice
Stranded vehicles may be left along roads and marked with yellow caution tape.
If you see yellow tape on a mirror or wrapped around a vehicle, it has been checked by first responders and is not an emergency.
