If someone shot a rom com in Lynchburg, Virginia, these are the six places they’d film it.

Fall is when Lynchburg starts looking like the set of a 90s rom com. The Flour District on Bedford Avenue has the tables outside that are worth waiting for, and Givens Books over on Lakeside Drive a is where you lose forty minutes without noticing.

Then there’s the bench at the beginning of the Blackwater Creek Trail overlooking the fountain. Go late in the afternoon in October. And then there are the views from Morris Orchard any time of day in the Fall—go to pick up your apples and have an apple slushy, and make sure you take in the views.

For the shot that ends the movie, drive Peakland Place in Boonsboro the week the leaves turn on the maples, then have dinner at Truss.

I grew up in Lynchburg, and moved back to town 25 years ago after living in Atlanta after college. I NEVER thought I’d settle down here. But there was a job opportunity, and family was here, so I came back. Lynchburg calls to you that way sometimes.

1. The intersection 221 and Old Forest Road between 3:30 and 5pm is not the fast way, no matter what your GPS says.
2. There is so much more to Lynchburg than its colleges and Wards Road.
3. Visiting the Old City Cemetery is free, and most people never think to go.
4. The local apple c***r shows up around September, and it’s in all the local stores. Great for spiked hot apple c***r.
5. Order the mussels at Isabelas. Every single time.
6. Say yes to the first three invitations you get. That’s how you meet people here.

* Montana Plains in Boonsboro Shopping Center. Where I wish I could start every Saturday. Get the chocolate brioches!
* The Farm Basket on Langhorne Road. Worth the drive from anywhere in central Virginia.
* Rivermont Pizza near Randolph College. If you’ve never been, and you need a delicious casual dinner spot, that’s the one to fix first.
* Truss on Bedford Avenue. Date night at the bar!
* Virginia Garden Supply. I stopped by last week for my Fall mums and some pansies to replace some tired window box flowers.

I took some time this week to look back at what this year in Lynchburg, Virginia real estate has actually looked like.

If you started your search in Charlottesville, you should see what the same number does in Ivy or Keswick.

You have a number in your head and a short list of things you are not willing to give up, and someone has probably already told you that in Lynchburg, Virginia you have to pick one.

In Lynchburg, you have more options.

At $725,000 in Boonsboro you are getting the yard for the dog and a garden, and you are still 10 minutes from The Flour District and Crossfit Lynchburg, 12 minutes from the Blackwater Creek Trail, and about 15 minutes from Lynchburg General Hospital. The home is zoned for Paul Monro, Linkhorne Middle, and E.C.Glass HS.

This is why so many people who start out looking in Charlottesville end up buying in Boonsboro or Forest instead. Once you see it in person, Charlottesville stops being the obvious answer.
