Short notice, but we’re celebrating a major milestone and wanted to invite the community to celebrate with us! Some of you may have already heard about the ReJenerate Housing Cooperative, an affordable housing cooperative on the 900-block of Jenifer St that is starting construction on Monday.

ReJenerate has been 3.5 years in the making. Our goals are to be 100% net carbon zero and to provide critical affordable housing in the quickly gentrifying Marquette Neighborhood. We are also pioneering a few really interesting concepts including sharing three electric vehicles between all residents, reserving three rooms for young adults through Briarpatch, and creating multi-room ‘suites’ that give more privacy to larger families with children than a typical cooperative.

Thanks to the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin who have awarded us $18,200 for energy innovation! We are creating a car-sharing program that replaces personal internal combustion vehicle ownership with shared electric vehicles. This grant will help purchase three electric vehicles, install three Level 2 EV charging stations, and electrify the garage. Estimated CO2 reduction: 20.2 metric tons/year.

Today the PSC awarded $7 million for 32 energy innovation projects that will reduce energy consumption, increase the use of renewable energy and transportation technologies, bolster preparedness and resiliency in the energy system, and ensure steps are taken to create comprehensive energy plans. We are grateful for the City of Madison Community Development Division's support for ReJenerate Housing Cooperative, and for making City funding available to cooperatives this year!

The proposals could help with housing for at least 280 low- to moderate-income individuals, according to the city.

.As the City considers changes to our zoning code related to cooperative housing, or co-ops, I want to take this opportunity to talk about what co-ops are, how they fit into the larger housing picture in Madison, and what the proposed changes to our regulations do.

ReJenerate Housing Cooperative, a housing cooperative located at 909-911-915 Jenifer St in Madison, is looking for a new Treasurer to serve a 1 year term on the board! At this point in time, you do not need to be living at the house to be on the board.
Along with the President and Secretary, the Treasurer will be part of an independent body that has the fiduciary responsibility of ensuring that the nonprofit mission of the co-op is maintained. Workload is minimal (~2 hours/month) and includes board meetings, discussing legal issues with the co-op’s attorney, and being the first point of contact for financial matters of the co-op.
