Join us Wednesday, June 10th at 12:00 - 1:00 PM for June's Curds of Wisdom Session: "Expanding Homeownership and Generational Wealth for Underserved Communities" 🧀

For most households, owning a home is the key to financial stability and building wealth. Unfortunately, homeownership remains out of reach for many in historically underserved communities. In this webinar, we’ll be joined by Own It: Building Black Wealth and Wisconsin Native Loan Fund to highlight innovative programs that are removing barriers to make homeownership more attainable for Black and Native American communities. Join us to hear about financial assistance and educational programs that are helping to unlock the door to opportunity so that all members of our community can benefit from generational wealth.

Protect your family from these common sources of lead -- many of which can be found in or around your home! This can be especially important information if your home was built before 1978. Homes prior to 1978 likely contain lead paint. In 1978, the federal government banned consumer uses of lead-based pain.

In addition to the interior of your home, the exterior and your yard can contain or be contaminated by lead paint/dust. Lead in soil can lead to lead poisoning in children if they are playing in contaminated yards or if you consume vegetables from soil with lead in it.

Other sources include toys, furniture, cosmetics, food containers, and plumbing materials. The Consumer Product Safety Commission has taken measures to put protections in place that ban the use of lead in many children’s products.

Finally, your drinking water may contain levels of lead through corrosion of plumbing materials. Homes built before 1986 are more likely to have lead pipes, fixtures and solder.

Being aware of the common sources of lead can help protect your family from lead poisoning. To learn more, visit: https://www.epa.gov/lead/protect-your-family-sources-lead

Since 1999, the Wisconsin Collaborative for Affordable Housing, during the annual A Home for Everyone conference, has presented an award to an individual who has exhibited a life-long effort of dedication and excellence in the creation of affordable housing in Wisconsin.

This award is the Charles M. Hill, Sr. Award for Housing Excellence, named after Mr. Hill in honor of his lifetime commitment to affordable housing. Mr. Hill is the former Executive Vice President of Community Investment for the Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago, where he guided the bank’s affordable housing effort since the program’s inception in the late 1970s. Previous to that, Mr. Hill was critical to the development of effective housing programs emanating out of the ‘War on Poverty’ … both with local organizations and in state government.

Nominations for the 2026 award will be accepted until June 1, 2026. 🎖️
