Madison County neighbors,
This explains what is happening this Wednesday, August 19 concerning the proposed residential development off Clarkdell Road that would directly border Mississippi Horse Rescue. 😭
This development would dramatically change the rural area surrounding our farm, and the outcome matters not only to us, but to everyone who lives, farms, owns animals, or travels these roads.
I’m sharing the information below from our neighbors who have been fighting this for more than two years:

This issue has been going on for more than two years, and on August 19, it will be back before the court.
The proposal involves rezoning 366 acres (along Clarkdell Rd, approx 1 mile from south of Yandell Rd) from estate residential to higher-density residential development.
This isn’t a case where the community simply didn’t speak up.
The Madison County Planning & Zoning Commission denied the rezoning in August 2024. When the developer appealed, 437 local signatures opposing the rezoning were submitted, along with concerns from residents about traffic, road capacity, safety and evacuation access, infrastructure, natural resources, and preserving the rural character and quality of life of the surrounding area.
Despite that opposition, the Madison County Board of Supervisors overturned Planning & Zoning’s denial and approved the rezoning by a 3–2 vote on September 16, 2024.
Now the court will review the Board’s decision and determine whether it was legally supported by the facts and the law.
Regardless of where you stand on development, I think residents deserve to know when a decision of this magnitude is being made. 366 acres and a substantial increase in residential density can affect far more than the property being developed. Roads, traffic, emergency access, infrastructure, public services, and the character of the surrounding community can all be affected.
If hundreds of residents cared enough to sign their names and speak up the first time around, we need to keep paying attention now.
