Let me tell y’all about this one… and fair warning, this closing came with a few extra emotions attached.

Some home sales just hit a little different.

My cousin Tara and I grew up under the same roof for a lot of years, and honestly, I can probably count on one hand the number of people who truly understand the kind of childhood we both had to navigate. From her tattling on me every chance she got when we were kids (which I’m sure she’ll still deny 😂), to me stepping in to protect her from neighborhood bullies like she was my little sister — life definitely kept things interesting.

As adults, our lives went in completely different directions while we both worked to break some of the cycles life handed us. So when she called me earlier this year out of the blue saying she needed to relocate closer to the Cleveland area, there wasn’t even a second thought… I was all in. Apparently my job description now includes protecting family from real estate bullies too.

After she got into town, Tara, my wife Colleen, Paxton, and I finally sat down for a long-overdue dinner and some of the biggest hugs imaginable. The wildest part? It had been nearly 20 years since we had seen each other face to face.

What started as a real estate transaction quickly became something much more meaningful. Reconnecting after all these years was honestly pretty incredible — especially realizing that even though our lives took different roads, they still ended up sharing so many similarities along the way.

I’m beyond grateful real estate gave us the opportunity to reconnect, and even more grateful that she’ll now be geographically closer so our kids can get to know the amazing woman Tara is.

This one wasn’t just a closing. It felt a little like a welcome home. ❤️
