❄️ WINTER WEATHER UPDATE (Madison, IN | Greens of Madison) ❄️
A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for Jefferson County (Madison area) from Saturday, Jan 24 (1 AM EST) through Monday, Jan 26 (7 AM EST). Forecast calls for heavy mixed precipitation, including snow totals around 7–13 inches and ice accumulation around 0.40", which can lead to power outages, tree damage, and travel that may be nearly impossible.
✅ Best tips to stay safe + protect your home:
🔋 Power/phones: If you have battery banks/power banks, charge them now (and keep your phone charged) in case of outages.
🚗 Travel: If you can, stay in and avoid unnecessary driving during the worst of it. If you must travel, keep a flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle.
🚰 Prevent frozen pipes:
Keep your heat on and steady (don’t crank it way down overnight).
Open kitchen/bath cabinet doors (especially if pipes are on an exterior wall) so warm air can circulate.
During the coldest hours, a slow drip from a faucet can help keep water moving.
🛁 If pipes freeze, plan ahead:
Some residents like to fill a bathtub or a few containers ahead of time so you have water available to flush a toilet (you can pour water directly into the bowl to flush) if pipes do freeze.
🧊 If you suspect a frozen pipe:
Turn the faucet on slightly and call ASAP. If you see active leaking, shut off water if you can and call immediately.
