Congratulations to Evan Hunt from Sequoyah High School! 🏆

🏆 STUDENT ATHLETE OF THE WEEK — EVAN HUNT 🏆

Presented by Zeke Massengill, REALTOR® | Edmonds Realty & Auction Group

This week’s Monroe County Student Athlete of the Week is Sequoyah High School’s Evan Hunt! 🏈

Evan’s story is about much more than one football game.

Coach Brett King spoke about the growth he has seen in Evan over the past few years—the way he has persevered, matured, and continued working to become a young man his teammates and school can count on.

“He’s here every day,” Coach King shared. That consistency has allowed Evan to set an example for the younger players in the program: show up, put in the work, and keep getting better.

And the work Evan has put in is impressive.

At just around 170 pounds, Evan has a 635-pound squat max—something Coach King pointed out doesn’t happen overnight. Evan puts in work during the season, throughout the offseason, and even outside of school.

Last week, all of that work showed up when his team needed him most.

After giving up a touchdown earlier in the game despite being in good position, Evan didn’t let the previous play define the next one. He responded by making plays on both sides of the ball, including an interception in overtime and the game-winning touchdown in overtime!

Coach King said that performance showed one of Evan’s greatest qualities: the ability to forget the last play and attack the next one.

That same leadership carries into the halls of Sequoyah.

Evan talked about the importance of keeping his grades up, staying on top of his work, being a leader inside the school, and checking on other students when he notices someone having a hard day.

When asked what advice he would give younger athletes, Evan kept it simple:

“If you want to be good at something, you’re gonna have to work for it. No matter how good you think you are, you’re gonna have to keep working for it.”

That’s what this award is all about—not just what you accomplish during the game, but the person you are becoming along the way.

Congratulations to Evan Hunt, our Monroe County Student Athlete of the Week!

And a special THANK YOU to Bert’s for continuing to support our local student-athletes and providing our winner with a gift card each week! ❤️

Congrats to Caiden West of TPHS!

🏆MONROE COUNTY STUDENT ATHLETE OF THE WEEK — CAIDEN WEST! 🏆

Presented by Zeke Massengill, REALTOR® | Edmonds Realty and Auction

This week, we're excited to recognize Caiden West of the Tellico Plains Bears as our Student Athlete of the Week!

Caiden's performance on the football field earned him a nomination for 5Star Preps Player of the Week, but it's his leadership, work ethic, and character both on and off the field that make him stand out.

When asked what he does to set himself apart, Caiden gave an answer that speaks volumes about the kind of young man he is:
"I just try to be a good person and give somebody a reason to have a good day. You never know what somebody's gone through, so just be a good person and try to help somebody out."

Coach White had plenty to say about Caiden's leadership and dedication. As the team's quarterback, Caiden leads by example, whether it's at practice, in the weight room, or under the Friday night lights.
But Coach White also highlighted something most people don't get to see: the work Caiden puts in when nobody is watching.
From studying film throughout the week to preparing mentally and physically for every game, Caiden puts in the time and effort to make sure he's ready to lead his team.

Coach White shared that Caiden doesn't just lead with his performance. He also makes it a priority to lift up those around him, both on the field and in the hallways at Tellico Plains.

When asked what advice he would give to younger athletes who might want to follow in his footsteps, Caiden kept it simple:
"Everything comes with challenges, and it gets hard. Just don't give up. If you know you want to do something, don't give up."

Congratulations, Caiden! Keep working hard, leading by example, and making a difference in the lives of those around you. We're excited to see what the future holds for you!

A special THANK YOU to Bert's for generously donating the gift card for our Student Athlete of the Week!
