Today we came up a little short in the championship game, finishing an incredible rec season as runners-up.
While losing the final game stings, this season was about so much more than wins and losses. It’s a bittersweet moment for me because it marks the end of my rec softball coaching journey. Olivia has played her last Allendale Rec Softball game, and it’s hard to believe how quickly the years have gone by.
I couldn’t be more proud of this team. The way these girls came together, supported one another, and built friendships throughout the season was something truly special. They cheered for each other, picked each other up, celebrated every success, and never stopped having fun.
From the dancing in the dugout, to the endless conversations about school, life, friendships, and all the random things teenage girls talk about, there was never a dull moment. Some of my favorite memories were watching the older girls mentor the younger ones and seeing the bonds that formed along the way.
At some point, the game itself became secondary to the joy they found simply being together. That chemistry is what helped them battle back in tough games, pull off some exciting late victories, and earn their spot in the championship game. They understood something that many adults forget: it’s just a game. Win or lose, we’re still going to be ourselves, support each other, and have fun.
I learned so much from this group of girls, and I hope they learned a little something from us coaches as well.
Thank you for an unforgettable season. I am incredibly grateful to have had the opportunity to coach such an amazing group of young women.
Once a team, always a team. ❤️🥎
