People think owning a business is freedom.

And it is.

Freedom to answer emails from a mountain top.
Freedom to return phone calls from a hiking trail.
Freedom to review reports while sitting beside an alpine lake.

This past week, Aime and I have been exploring California, making memories, hiking incredible places, fishing beautiful waters, and taking in views we’ll never forget. Yet every day has also included answering messages, returning calls, responding to emails, and helping clients back home.

The reality is that when you own a business, you never really clock out.

Some people see that as a downside. I see it differently.

Every call, text, email, and inspection request represents someone trusting us with their time, their money, and an important decision. That’s a responsibility I don’t take lightly.

So yes, even on vacation, the phone still rings and the emails still come in.

And honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Good pool companies here in the STL area and all over the world I’m sure spend far too much time clawing back the credibility and integrity that a few bad actors damage on a daily basis.

Every day I do my best to provide clients with clear, accurate reporting regarding the condition of a swimming pool. I also make it a point not to speak negatively about other companies, even when their work is clearly inadequate or poorly done.

Some days, however, that becomes extremely difficult.

I can support my findings with manufacturer installation requirements, ISPSC standards, applicable safety requirements, photographs, testing procedures, and documented observations.

Not opinions.

Facts.

Data.

Documentation.

I take no pleasure in identifying defects. In fact, I wish every pool I inspected was in excellent condition. Unfortunately, that isn’t reality.

Today I spent 30 minutes defending documented deficiencies after another company reportedly stated these items did not require repair. The same company also concluded that the pool plumbing passed pressure testing despite only testing “SELECTED” plumbing lines.

Think about that for a second.

As professionals, we don’t have to agree on every finding. Hell, I’m not perfect… But if we’re going to tell a client that something is acceptable, we should be prepared to support that conclusion with more than a handwritten note and an opinion.

Integrity matters.

Documentation matters.

Facts matter.

We are officially in the thick of pool season… and I just want to say THANK YOU.

Right now, we’re booking about 7 business days out, and most days are packed with 4 inspections instead of the usual 3. It’s busy… but it’s a blessing.

I’m incredibly grateful for the referrals, the trust, and the opportunity to work with so many great agents and clients across the St. Louis area.

One quick note for buyers and agents:

👉 If you’re writing contracts, consider allowing a little extra time for pool inspections. (I know that can be hard if you want to stay competitive) It helps ensure you can get a thorough, professional evaluation without feeling rushed.

We are doing everything we can to accommodate schedules and keep things moving smoothly, and we truly appreciate your patience during this busy season.
