In celebration of Black History Month, I proudly honor my grandmother Sallie Davis, affectionately known as my Momma Sallie, a true hero who blessed us with 100 remarkable years of wisdom, strength, love, and guidance as the matriarch of the Davis Family. As we continue to pay tribute to those who paved the way for us, I am thrilled to share her inspiring story. Born on February 28, 1923, this month would have marked her 102nd birthday, but God had other plans, and we are forever grateful for the 100 years of love, wisdom, and cherished memories she shared with us. A trailblazer in every sense, she was the first woman forklift driver at Morton Food Company, where she worked until her retirement. Her exceptional culinary skills, which she generously passed down to me, continue to inspire and nourish our family. Her devotion to her church, PRBC, and the Usher Board was unwavering. She was also a formidable domino player, and her humility and humor were contagious. Momma Sallie was the loving mother of three daughters, grandmother of nine grandchildren, of which I am honored to be number four, and great-grandmother to 28 and many more great-great-grandchildren. Her legacy lives on through us, and we will forever celebrate her life, love, and enduring spirit. Rest in heaven, Momma Sallie.
