This is your friendly (but stern) reminder that low-speed vehicles are not permitted on the multi-use path or on any town sidewalks.
Golf carts must be registered and tagged for use on the streets of Nags Head. However, they can only be driven on state roads and on side roads (where the speed limit is 35 mph or less). They cannot be driven across U.S. Highway 158 (also known as South Croatan Highway), except at a traffic light to get across the highway.
LSV (Low-speed vehicles) must be driven by a licensed driver, be registered, and have insurance. They must also be equipped with the following:
-Headlamps
-Tail lamps
-Horn
-Windshield
-Stop lamps
-Mirrors
-Seat belts
-Parking brake (thanks to those who noticed our misspelling!)
-Font and rear turn signals
-Reflectors
-Vehicle identification number (VIN)
Per statute 20-121.1, they are not allowed on streets where the speed is higher than 35 mph.

Great event supporting a great cause!!!

We are 2 days away from the Pig Pickin at Mimi’s Tiki. This event will be all you can eat BBQ and sides. Don’t forget that event is free for everyone however, all donations will be going to the Dare County Boat Builders Scholarship fund, so please consider donating while eating some delicious food. Never too early to think about Summer Camps!!!!

Camp S.A.L.T. 2023 Summer Camps
Registration is now open

The Dare County Sheriff's Office offers the Sheriff's Summer Camp S.A.L.T. for children ages 8 to 14.

There will be summer camp sessions from June to August, and campers may sign up for one of the camps. The camp activities may include fishing, climbing the Alpine Tower, rock wall, educational field trips and going to the sound. Each child will have opportunities to make new friends, learn ways to deal with challenges and create proud memories.

Session 1 - June 12th - June 23rd

Session 2 - June 26th - July 7th (no camp 4th of July)

Session 3 - July 10th - July 21st

Session 4 - July 24th - August 4th

Session 5 - August 7th - August 18th

Last year we all lost a national treasure, Betty White 😔💔
For what would have been Betty White’s 100th birthday, shelters all around the country participated in “The Betty White challenge”. Betty white was a true lover of all animals and was a HUGE advocate for them. Betty’s love for animals started as a child and continued to grow.

Betty personally supported numerous animal related nonprofits, from donating and volunteering to fundraising and recording public announcements. In 2009 Betty White was awarded the prestigious Jane Goodall Institute Global Leadership Award for Lifetime Achievement for her decades of support to protect wildlife and educate the public about animals.

We are so thankful for all the donations we received last year for The Betty White Challenge ❤️🙏🐶🐱 When you donate to our shelter it helps pay for medical supplies, medical attention, general supplies needed for animals, cleaning supplies and much more.

This year we would love to keep it going for what would have been Betty White’s 101st Birthday ❤️ Please consider donating in memory of Betty White for her birthday this year, January 17th.
