Okay, this one is for the lawn nerds. 🤓
I’ve tested 15 robot mowers over the past two years through real Minnesota conditions, and these things have come a long way.
We’re talking RTK, LiDAR, cameras and all-wheel drive, with newer mowers using different technologies to navigate lawns, deal with tree cover and avoid obstacles.
The prices have changed too. Entry-level machines now start under $1,000, compared with a roughly $2,500 floor just a few years ago. Strong mid-range models generally run about $2,000–$3,000.
But they’re definitely not all created equal.
Tree cover matters. Slopes matter. Navigation technology matters. And yes, depending on your yard, you may still need to break out the string trimmer around some edges.
After two years of testing, I’ve reached the point where I’d recommend a robot mower for most people.
And if you want to go properly down the rabbit hole, I’ve got plenty more where that came from. 🤓
