The Marblehead Festival of Arts invites professional and nonprofessional individuals who currently reside, work, attend a school, or belong to an arts association in Essex County to submit entries for the 2027 Marblehead Festival of Arts Logo Contest.

This long-standing and prestigious competition, as old as the festival itself, produces a one-of-a-kind design to symbolize each year's event.

The 2027 Festival logo will appear on merchandise, signage, web pages, and so much more, and will be used not only at our legendary summer arts festival, but also at events throughout the year, including our film festival, ch*****ne reception and fundraising events, just to name a few. It will become a part of Festival history!

Judges will select designs from this year’s submission as semifinalists; the MFoA Board of Directors will then review the judges’ selections and present the finalists to the public.

The public will then determine the winner by ballot this December during the annual Artisans’ Holiday Marketplace at Abbot Hall. The winner will be unveiled at an exciting logo premiere party in January 2027 and will receive a cash prize of $150. The deadline for all submissions is Monday, November 30, 2026, at 5:00 pm ET. A $10 entry fee is required. You may submit up to three entries.

Arthur Carlow was a legendary MHS teacher. His skill and genuine kindness fostered the interest of Industrial Arts in so many kids, many with little interest in learning the ABC's. Many successful local tradespeople started in Mr. Carlow's class. Rest Easy, Artie

“With Halloween approaching, it is important to consider the potential hazards the holiday brings for participants of all ages.

Children should be dressed appropriately for the weather and wear reflective attire or carry flashlights to ensure they can be seen in the dark. Young trick-or-treaters should always be accompanied by an adult. Older children should be reminded of how to trick-or-treat safely, and should use the “buddy system” to make sure no one walks alone.

Drivers should be extra cautious and drive slowly, paying careful attention to trick-or-treaters who may be unaware of the traffic.

The Marblehead Police Department strongly recommends that trick-or-treating is done between 5 and 8 p.m.

Marblehead Police will be assisting the Marblehead Chamber of Commerce with this year’s Trick-or-Treating in the Business Districts event held on Thursday, Oct. 29, from 4-6 p.m.

During the event, the following roads will be closed from 4-5:30 p.m., and those driving should seek alternate routes. Please view the following for closure and detour information:

Main closure: Washington Street will be closed from the bottom of Pleasant Street to
Rockaway Street.

Additional road closure: Summer Street.

Detour routes: Traffic at the end of Pleasant Street will be detoured to turn left onto
Washington Street. Traffic on Washington Street will be directed to turn left onto
Rockaway Street.”

is a great time to remind you that time is running out to register your pumpkin for our annual Pumpkin Illumination Contest, presented in partnership with the Marblehead Family Fund!

Join us next Thursday for the Illumination! We’ll have candy, lawn games, and plenty of pumpkins. Visitors can vote for their Peoples Choice in every category.

Tickets to see the Illumination are $5 per person or $20 per family, and are available at the door.

Blending history, humor, and heartfelt storytelling, he reveals how Jewish patriots helped shape a nation founded on freedom. This presentation invites the audience to reflect on how honoring the past can inspire pride, identity, and connection in the present.
