I still remember that day. Ariel was just a baby, and I had just placed her in her car seat, ready to head out the door. Mom and I were supposed to be going to Birmingham for a food trade show—back when I owned The Coffee Bean Café.
I had been watching the Today Show and was about to turn off the television when they showed the first plane hitting the tower. I remember thinking, “Oh my, what a horrible accident. How could that happen?” Then, moments later, I watched the second plane hit, and the horror set in as I realized this was no accident at all.
I didn’t personally know anyone who lost their life that day, yet I was devastated. Like millions of Americans, I felt helpless and afraid, wondering what would happen next.
I remain deeply grateful to live in a country where attacks of this magnitude are not part of our everyday lives—and where, in times of unimaginable tragedy, we come together as one nation to help, comfort, and support one another.
Today, I remember the innocent lives lost, the heroes who ran toward danger, and the families whose lives were forever changed.
May we never forget. 🇺🇸
