I ended up being so busy yesterday, I didn't have to time to post. So let's get back to it!
Today’s highlighted décor trend is one we are seeing more and more of. I’m dying to know your thoughts on Patterns on Patterns. It is being mentioned almost more than any other trend! It’s a timeless look, but is gaining so much momentum that is almost being viewed as a new trend. When done well, it can be gorgeous. If not, it can be awful! Your key is going to be a consistent color scheme – that will allow stripes, florals and patterns to coexist. It is best to not use more than 3 colors in one more and make sure the patterns are different sizes. I’m sorry but this trend wouldn’t work for me. I’m OCD, and more patterns that my eyes are drawn to stresses me out! I need a more minimalistic look. But like I said at the start, if you love it – then GO FOR IT!! Our homes are not only an expression of ourselves, they are our safe comfortable spaces. So whatever style you like, that’s what you should have! Just remember, not everyone may love it. And when it comes time to sell, you may need to change some things to make your house more marketable.

I don’t think there is a more welcoming design trend than English Country Style and it is making a resurgence! Floral pillows, wallpaper, window coverings, striped fabrics, skirted furniture, vintage and antique pieces. To me this design is timeless. Think of natural materials like natural jute and wool rugs, stone and brick. These all bring in a homey and old fashioned look in the best way. And from a real estate perspective, these are things that, for the most part, are easy to remove and take with you when selling a property – leaving a blank canvas for the next buyer. Today’s design trend: Earth tones. And I’m going to tell you – this trend I LOVE! After more of a decade of nothing but gray, earth tones have started to make a come back and aren’t dying down anytime soon! Warm color palettes are being used in paint and fabrics, while darker wood furniture pieces are gaining popularity. And we’re not just talking about browns; shades like olive, beiges, terracottas, greens are all on the upswing. I am a huge fan of these shades. Even when combined with white like in the picture of the bathroom, the dark wood and beiges add a warm rich feel. Check in tomorrow to see examples of one of the cutest designing resurgences!

Today we are talking about Artful Lighting. Now accent lighting is nothing new. Statement lighting started becoming a big trend a few years ago. At that time, larger oversized lighting was what everyone was talking about. But as trends have morphed over the last couple years, statement lighting has changed from big and brash to artful and unique, charming and whimsical, to vintage. In both the attached examples, neither are bold, but they are very special. They are both romantic, but modern. By drawing your eye up, they create a focal point, while playing perfectly with other elements in the room. I do love this trend because it allows you to bring in some personality and uniqueness without it being an expensive, unchangeable accent. Let’s talk décor this week. We’re coming up to a new year, and the designers have been busy coming up with new ideas to refresh your home. Before I decorate, I’m always thinking about “What if I had to put this house on the market tomorrow? Would a buyer love it or want to change this?” Sometimes this holds me back in decorating the way I would like to. But at the end of the day, everyone should have whatever ideas they love in their home!
The first trend we’ll show today is Color Drenching. This is the idea of going all in - painting all or most of a room’s surfaces in a single color, or a few related tones. This includes the walls, ceilings, trim, molding, and baseboards. I do love the look of this, but this is a commitment! No one wants to repaint that ceiling every few years, so be sure to pick a look you love! If done well, this looks very luxurious! Check in tomorrow when we will show a couple examples of the latest trend in lighting.
