Most people prepare for hard conversations by rehearsing what they're going to say.
They script the opening line. They anticipate objections. They plan their rebuttal.
And then they walk in, and it falls apart in the first thirty seconds.
Because the problem was never the words. The problem was the energy behind them. Were you coming from care β or from the need to control the outcome?
Your parent can feel the difference before you've opened your mouth. Anxiety masked as concern still feels like anxiety.
The real preparation isn't what you'll say. It's asking yourself why you need to say it β and being honest about the answer.
