In nearly all parts of the country, buyer agent representation agreements are a new thing for consumers. If you’re in California, most agents will present you with a seven page agreement plus multiple disclosures. 😱👀

This is probably true in most states because the agreements are usually written by agents to protect agents. They are not written to protect buyers. There are five core terms for you to look for in any agreement you sign with an agent.

Any other terms beyond these five should be put back to your agent for explanation. If your agent can’t explain the extras and why they need to be in the agreement, that is a red flag!
