There’s a new night-out stretch forming in downtown Marion, and it’s not where everyone thinks.

North Main Street is starting to connect the dots between tacos, cocktails, live music, patios, and after-hours energy — even if a lot of locals still don’t know the area has a name yet.

The St. Mary District may not be household language in Marion, but Taco Central, Fable Bar & Co., Shovel City Drinkery, and the surrounding North Main corridor are giving people a reason to look north of Center Street when planning a night out.

In October of 1930, Betty Fox, at the age of 20, erected the first ever flagpole perch (with the help of her brother Benny) on the roof of the Hotel Harding in Marion, Ohio. She then perched atop the 50 foot pole on the roof of the building for 100 hours in an effort to break her previous flagpole sitting record. During this time, she took telephone calls, performed stunts and conversed with her brother, Benny, who supplied her with any supplies she needed.
