At approximately 8:32 p.m. on May 10, a Northborough detective observed a male driving a vehicle on Bearfoot Road, and had reason to believe that the operator – later identified as Stephen Faro – was in possession of narcotics. A traffic stop was made.

One of the biggest surprises for many Massachusetts home sellers? The excise tax paid at closing when transferring ownership of a property.

In Massachusetts, sellers currently pay $4.56 per $1,000 of the sale price to record the deed … something many people don’t learn about until the closing table. On a $500,000 home, that’s an additional $2,280 in closing costs.

As a former paralegal, one of the things I really focus on is helping my clients understand the full picture before they sell — from negotiations and timelines to the costs and details that can catch people off guard later.

The good news? In some cases, buyers may offer to cover this cost as part of a stronger offer or negotiation strategy.
