One of Marquette's best hidden summer traditions happens every Wednesday evening on Lake Superior.

The Ensign Fleet has been racing in Marquette Bay since the early 1970s, bringing together sailors, families, and spectators for friendly but fierce one-design competition. (Marquette Yacht Club)
best viewing location: Lower Harbor Around 5:45 PM on Wednesdays during the summer

Next time you're exploring downtown Marquette, grab a seat along the shoreline in the Lower Harbor and watch dozens of white sails cross Marquette Bay.

Save this for your next summer visit to Marquette!

Did you know the giant structures stretching into Lake Superior are some of the most iconic landmarks in Marquette, Michigan?

The historic Marquette Ore Docks tell the story of the Upper Peninsula’s iron mining heritage. While the Lower Harbor Ore Dock is no longer active, it’s one of the most photographed sights in Marquette. If you want to see a working ore dock in action, head to the Upper Harbor Ore Dock, where trains still deliver iron ore pellets that are loaded into massive Great Lakes freighters.

One of the best places to watch is Clark Lambros Beach Park, where you’ll find plenty of parking, beautiful Lake Superior views, and a front-row seat to one of the most unique industrial attractions in the Midwest.

Turns out the answer was one of Marquette’s best gems. ⛳️
The Marquette Golf Club has been welcoming golfers for over 100 years — with 36 holes carved through towering pines, rolling hills, and some of the most beautiful Upper Peninsula scenery you’ll ever play through
Drives flying through the pines. Smooth putts rolling , rolling, rolling true. And those granite Greywalls towering around the course — intimidating at first glance, but absolutely gorgeous in every direction.
Even if you’re just along for the ride, the views alone make this spot worth the visit.
Golf is flipped like that… one hole makes you question every life decision, and the next shot has you convinced you could go pro.
Whether you golf or not, this place feels like summer in Marquette.
Morning tee times. Crisp pine air. Lake Superior breezes. Equal parts frustration and pure joy.
Honestly, it’s just one more reason Marquette belongs on your summer travel agenda

People come to Marquette for the views…
but they leave with something deeper.

Somewhere between the hikes, the cold water courage, the cliff jumping, sunrise coffee conversations, and late night bonfires… life slows down again.

And when life slows down, people reconnect.

With each other.
With nature.
With themselves.

That’s the magic of the UP.”
