I came across these relics of the past today while showing property in Leicester. I am always curious, often intrigued and occasionally stumped when I contemplate the history of a place. My imagination really takes over when I’m walking on vacant land. What used to be? Who lived there? What did they use the property for? Why did they site a building where they did? Today was different, in that I found these gorgeous double stacked rock fireplaces at an old homesite, and a single photographic negative, too damaged to see clearly but clear enough to know it was documentary evidence of the mysterious and rich history of this place. This makes me want to bury a time capsule on our property, or at least be more mindful of how we interact with land and the marks we will leave behind on a place.

Yesterday, while showing a really sweet 105 year old farmhouse, my heart jumped when I found this spring house attached to the kitchen!! It was in perfect working order and served as a great reminder of the efficiency of simple systems. The constant flow of cold spring water was used to keep perishables cold before refrigeration. I thought of the generations before us that used this spring house and what they must have kept in there. I really hope the folks that buy this home keep this treasure and appreciate its inherent historical value.

CLOSED! On this gorgeous 43 acre property in the Celo community of Burnsville. This place is a homesteader’s dream - multiple, large pastures, several springs, old farm house, privacy and walkable woods. Thrilled for my client for her steal on this place. So many folks approach me wanting to move to Madison county, and I get it, but you can’t find this in Madison county these days without paying an arm and a leg for it. Glad to have made another great land-steward match, and hope to close more deals in Yancey county in the future!

We are definitely riding the pandemic roller coaster around here, but forced social distancing and reduced work hours means we can work together to make improvements on our land, which is so dang sweet. Pony Palace is getting walls today with poplar milled by our neighbor.
