Today, the kids came to work with me! It’s honestly one of their favorite things to do, and I love that because I think that it is so important to include your children in daily work and mundane chores. I am a firm believer that the most important learning doesn't primarily happen in a classroom. It happens nightly around the dinner table, while picking up the house, making beds, pulling weeds, mowing the yard, or, in our case today, fixing broken things at the office and installing "for sale" signs and lockboxes.

If your kids are only around you for life's highlights, like ice cream runs and vacations, they won't experience and appreciate what it takes to build and maintain a household, a family, and/or a business or job. Trust me, I would prefer to outsource everything if I could, but there's one thing I feel you should never outsource...parenting your kids.

I'm thankful that throughout my life, I learned to work hard, which has made me who I've become as a wife, mother, and Realtor. It's not a license or a degree alone that truly makes you competent; it's the emotional IQ and character traits developed over decades...and especially formed when you're young.

So, if you see us out and about in Marysville and Union County, these kiddos are currently enrolled in the summer program of the "School of Hard Knocks." And so far, my favorite students are getting A+'s.

When Brian and Rachel first called me, they told me they were interviewing multiple Realtors (which you should!).

After renting the same apartment for 10 years, they wanted to make sure they found the right fit before buying their very first home.

We talked on the phone for my initial interview, met in person for my second interview and new buyer consultation, I answered a lot of questions, and after being told they had selected me as their Realtor (yay!), I got them connected with a lender and pre-approved.

As engineers by trade, they approached the home search exactly how you'd expect. They took their time, looked at the numbers (every commute, every monthly payment, and every long-term consideration) and thought through every decision carefully.

After only looking at a couple of homes, they sent me one that was slightly above their comfort zone and asked what I thought. I noticed it had been sitting on the market for a while and told them it was absolutely worth seeing. There might be room to negotiate.

The moment we walked through the front door, we ALL felt it.

We put together a plan, negotiated, and got them into a home they loved while staying within a budget they were comfortable with.

After 10 years of renting, they finally got the keys to their first home.

Congratulations, Brian and Rachel. 🏡❤️

Our week at the lake didn't exactly go as planned... and honestly, I think that's why I'll remember it.

The kids spent every chance they got out on the water tubing, but when the rain finally rolled in, we traded the boat for a movie theater. It wasn't part of the plan, but it ended up being one of those fun family memories we'll smile about later.

I've always loved being around the water. Ever since I was a kid, a lake has been one of those places where I can completely relax. It doesn't really matter which one. Put me on a boat with family or friends, and I'm happy.

The last couple of summers we've made the trip to Norris Lake in Tennessee, but this year some very generous friends invited us to spend a few days at their lake house in Michigan (Seriously... how blessed are we?!). ❤️ I'd forgotten just how clear the lakes are there. You could see straight to the bottom in places. It was beautiful.

I still spent part of the trip working (real estate doesn't exactly take vacations 😄 especially with more than a dozen families under contract!), but having a lake view during the day and getting to spend the rest of the time with family made for a pretty good week.

Now I'm curious... What's your favorite lake to visit? We're always looking for ideas for our next trip.

This sale had very little to do with real estate and a lot to do with people helping people.

A few years ago, I helped some clients sell their home and buy the house across the street. Earlier this year, they referred me to their mom, who was trying to help her neighbor, Ms. Marilyn, who was in a tricky situation.

After some health challenges, Ms. Marilyn had moved into assisted living and needed to sell her home. The problem was that she wasn't physically able to handle the process herself.

After looking at the property and the repairs it needed, I felt the best option was to find an investor buyer. We got the home under contract, but that deal eventually fell apart. Fortunately, another investor who had heard about the property stepped in, and we were able to get it back under contract quickly.

What I'll remember most isn't the contract, though.

It was Ms. Marilyn's neighbor who originally reached out to me for help—spending countless hours helping sort, pack, and organize. It was my husband and people from our church volunteering their time when I asked to help move all of her belongings into storage. It was another local family stepping in near the end to help finish moving the last truckloads when I posted on social media for some extra hands.

Everyone seemed to show up exactly when they were needed.

Ms. Marilyn could focus on one thing: her health and recovery. I made multiple trips to the assisted living facility for signatures, paperwork, counteroffers, and updates. And eventually, closing day arrived.

And instead of closing in a title office, we closed right at Ms. Marilyn's table, where she is currently staying.

Truthfully, this wasn't a transaction that resulted in a paycheck worth talking about. But that's not why I do this. Sometimes the greatest reward is simply being able to step in when someone asks for help and seeing how many good people are willing to do the same.

I'm grateful for Ms. Marilyn's incredible neighbor, our church group who gave their time, the local family who stepped in to help, and everyone who played a part in making this happen. There is still so much good in this world. And this closing was proof of it. ❤️
