The more info you give to strangers, the less well off you are. Even the most innocuous questions reveal things that you may not want known. Your favorite car or restaurant, etc could be the answer to a password hint. My favorite is you reverse the digits of your age, how old would you be? And why would a site like Grandma’s Favorite Recipes (and be certain they’re not the only one) be asking questions like this? Protect your information. You’ll be grateful that your bank accounts, credit cards, Medicare and even the title to your home aren’t compromised. In the Information Age it truly is better to be safe than sorry.

What comes first, the realtor or the lawyer? The realtors typically charge 6% or less. On a $500,000 property this can be as much as $30,000 commission. The closing lawyer averages about $2500 to close a property. Not to demean lawyers (I personally hired the same closing lawyer four times for our own properties), the realtor is in it from the very beginning and there through closing and beyond. A realtor can recommend a lawyer or vice versa but it should never be a package deal. And any such demands are a scam, don’t fall for it.

This has nothing to do with real estate but I thought important enough to share.

What’s your favorite movie? What’s your favorite food? What’s your favorite car? What’s your favorite boy’s or girl’s name? I don’t really want to know any of this but Data Mining companies do. These companies are not confined to the US either. Stop giving information to nameless, faceless people. They use this information for a variety of purposes. The least dangerous is marketing. The most dangerous is stealing passwords to get into your accounts and credit cards. If they get into your Social Security or Medicare accounts, the ballgame is over. So these may sound like innocuous questions but these and other questions can lead to a very serious breach in your security. Have you ever looked up a product then found several ads for it in your Facebook feed? It really is that easy and these people are very good at what they do.
