With cooler temperatures upon us, now is a good time to check your furnace filter to make sure it is clean for maximum efficiency and savings on your natural gas bill. For additional savings, you may want to check out APPLES TO APPLES on the internet. Here's the link https://energychoice.ohio.gov/
There you will find several suppliers that may be offering lower rates than you are currently paying. Be sure to pay attention to contract length, rate of course and if there are any fees with it or if there is a fee to cancel. You will need to look at your current Columbia Gas bill to see what rate you are currently paying.
Also if your hot water tank is dishing out super hot water, adjust that down as well. A) you don't need to be scalding yourself B) that tank is heating water 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. One of my neighbors used to have their hot water tank set so high that it would burn your hands, once they were made aware to set it to a temperature that got as hot as they liked it but not at scalding temps it lowered their gas bill significantly! Like $15 a month!!!
I have found a good deal with AEP that has lowered my bill significantly. I believe I locked into a lower rate through May, at which time I will check to see what rates are available then. Personally I like to use the budget method so there is no surprise each month as to what I will owe but that is a personal choice. Last year, shopping rates I lowered my budget amount by $22.00 per month!
This also works for electric rates as well.
If you haven't done so already, changing out your light bulbs to LED also adds up. Being rather frugal I also unplug things I am not using, until I use them like the coffee pot, microwave (sure the clock blinks but only while I am using it lol), radios, charging cords, lamps that I do not use regularly which has saved me up to $11 per month. You would be surprised how much "phantom" electricity is used just being plugged in! If you get "daylight" LED bulbs, you can use lower wattage with brighter light. I think an LED bulb equivalent to 60 watts is 13 watts.
Are you getting the drift of this message? I am trying to save you money!!! I mean who can't use extra money in these times of high cost groceries, clothes, soap. Another tip, you can do all your laundry in cold water with probably half of the liquid detergent you are using now. (You don't need a capful) Works just as well.
It only takes a little time to set all of these savings in place, so why not? Gather up your Columbia Gas and Toledo Edison bill and look at what the rate is you are paying and shop the provided link.
Let me know if this helps you as much as it has me.
