A colleague found this little gem recently in a house they were inspecting. There should be a flu on this water tank to take the exhaust outside. This was inside of the living space of the house and was dumping carbon monoxide into the house. The fact that no one in this house is dead right now is sheer dumb luck.

Always get a home inspection. It could literally save your life.

So this week's home inspection was a real whopper. Noted a staircase crack in the wall (structural). Total lack of candy-cane cross bracing, and that frosting is some cheap store bought deal, not approved for load bearing walls where you want to get a solid, 1-1-4 crisco, butter, sugar mix. Buyers were disappointed, but I looked at their little gingerbread children and asked them, what's more important a good deal on a corner lot, or knowing the kids are safe under a well frosted roof? It's a tough thing to tell people, but that's the job.
