In my family, January is chock-full of arrivals, and sadly, a growing number of departures. Recently, we laid to rest my father's eldest sibling, Raul (Coy) Cisneros, a fixture in Raymondville, Texas, entrepreneurship circles and the standard-bearer of the last business my grandfather created.

It's easy to get caught in the malaise of loss or feel weighed down by the gravity of change, but then I remember that I come from a long line of merchants -- all just passing thru. Our service is to others, and we celebrate each other's victories. We all deal with loss, yet we keep marching on.

It is in that spirit, and in honor of all those merchants that came before me that I choose to celebrate a new arrival -- the first WSS (shopwss.com) store in the Rio Grande Valley (501 S. Conway Ave., Mission). A fellow merchant that we have the pleasure of representing in their roll-out of stores in the , they service all family footwear needs -- cleats, too! I'm cheering them on with this first launch of what we hope will be many successful ones coming soon to other Valley cities, and I have a feeling that my forefathers are cheering on, too, from their respective posts in the Cosmos.
