This is one of the great overlook views in Iowa.

From the observation deck at Pikes Peak State Park in McGregor, you can look out over the Mississippi River valley and see where the Mississippi and Wisconsin Rivers meet. The Iowa DNR describes the overlook as sitting atop a 500-foot bluff, which explains why the view feels so big from up here.

From this aerial angle, you can see the deck tucked into the trees, with the river, islands, backwaters, sandbars, and Wisconsin bluffs stretching into the distance.

It’s one of those northeast Iowa views that never really gets old — and a perfect reminder of why the Driftless Area is always worth the drive.
