Today, we honor and celebrate Juneteenth, a day that commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States. Observed on June 19th, Juneteenth marks the day in 1865 when news of freedom finally reached enslaved people in Texas—more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.

Juneteenth is a time to reflect on our nation's history, celebrate freedom and resilience, and recognize the importance of equality, education, and community.

We wish all of our residents a meaningful and joyful Juneteenth as we continue to learn, grow, and celebrate together.
