Affordability in the housing market is closely tied to interest rates, and the good news is that the major forecasters see relief on the horizon!

Mortgage giant Fannie Mae expects rates to continue their downward trend, providing much-needed breathing room for buyers who have been sidelined by high borrowing costs.

Here’s their projection for 30-year fixed mortgage rates:
• Year-End 2025: Rates are predicted to settle around 6.4%
• Year-End 2026: Rates are forecast to drop below the 6% threshold, hitting approximately 5.9%

Affordability improves only if rates cooperate, and these projections suggest a much healthier, more active market over the next 12 to 18 months. If you’ve been waiting for a better buying environment, now is the time to get your plan ready!
